Aromatic bitters is a highly concentrated food and beverage flavoring. Made from a secret formula, it is a unique blend of natural herbs and spices which is used to flavour a wide variety of foods and drinks. A skillfully blended aromatic preparation of gentian flowers in combination with a variety of vegetable colouring matter. Made with the same ingredients since 1824. The "secret" was developed in 1824 by Dr. J.G.B. Siegert, a Surgeon General in Simon Bolivar's army in Venezuela. He used his aromatic bitters to improve appetite and digestive well-being of the soldiers. The word "Angostura" came from the town of that name in Venezuela where Dr. Siegert was based.

4 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. lime or lemon juice
3 oz. Guyana rum
Method: Put 4 tablespoons finely cracked ice into a mixing glass and add ingredients in order listed above. Mix thoroughly, strain, and divide into 2 drinks.
Trinidad Punch
4 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. lime or lemon juice
3 oz. Trinidad rum
